Involve
A new report out of the UK, People & Participation: How to put citizens at the heart of decision making, looks at the potential for increased public participation and the likely benefits. The report examines how to improve participatory practices and the relationship between participatory processes and political change.

AHURI
A new report: Housing affordability, occupation and location in Australian cities and regions, adds to the recent body of Australian research on affordability. The report, written by Judith Yates, Bill Randolph and Darren Holloway, explores the intersection between where people live, working environments and the prevalence of housing stress.

Joseph Rowntree Foundation
JRF has released a number of new publications. The most recent, Developer and purchaser attitudes to new build mixed tenure housing, considers the perception that some developers and purchasers have reservations about mixed tenure developments.

New NCHF Reports
 

A new NCHF report Managing Risk in Community Housing Operations: Concepts and Tools will soon be released. The report is a useful and concise guide for providers on how to incorporate sound risk management processes into their business. Keep an eye on the NCHF website for the publication, or register your interest by emailing the Forum.

NCHF is preparing a short update to the Strategic Framework for Community Housing 2004>08. The report looks at the goals set in 2004 and subsequent policy developments. It'll be available for download soon.

Two Discussion papers will be released shortly. They look at the twin issues of viability for traditional providers and how to position community housing more effectively to deliver affordable housing.

The National Awards for Excellence in Community Housing 2005 were presented in October at the Housing Conference. The Awards Report 2005 is available for download from the NCHF website or email the Forum for a hard copy.

WORLD HABITAT AWARDS 2006

The World Habitat Awards are in their 21st year. Run by the Building and Social Housing Foundation, the Awards recognise one project from the North and one from the global South. Projects are sought that demonstrate practical, innovative and sustainable solutions to current housing needs; and which provde to be transferable or adapatable.

SA

The South Australia Community Housing Authority is managing a project entitled Vision for Community Housing. A recent day of consultations with the sector looked towards 2016 and the future of community housing. Discussion included the sector's involvement in affordable housing, capacity building opportunities, relationships with service providers and possible new models. A draft Vision may be released as soon as May 2006.

NSW Community Housing Conference 2006

The NSW Conference will be held in Newcastle on 16 and 17 August 2006. For more information, visit the hotel network.

 

National Community Housing Accreditation Council

The National Community Housing Accreditation Council has released a set of generic accreditation and quality improvement tools. Tools have been developed to guide organisations through self assessment and quality improvement planning.

The core set of generic tools revolve around the self assessment workbook. Other tools in the set are designed to assist organisations as they go through the self assessment process.

NCHF Roundtables

NCHF held two roundtables in early June. A roundtable also took place in WA in which issues for regulating the community housing sector and options for the future were considered. Another roundtable in SA looked at regulation.
