The National
Community Housing Accreditation Council held its inaugural
meeting in January 2000. The Council was auspiced by the
National Community Housing Forum.
The objectives
of the Council were:
To help develop
and review service standards and accreditation systems around
the country for community housing providers;
To ensure national consistency
between such systems;
To ensure that such systems
provide continuous quality improvement for providers;
To provide quality assurance
to tenants and other stakeholders nationally (as well as
through state and territory systems).
To collect national data on
accreditation outcomes to identify systemic weaknesses and
strengths in developing community housing.
Council members
represented tenant interests, expertise in community housing,
accreditation experts, jurisdictions which implemented
the standards and accreditation system and those intending
to.
The National Community Housing Accreditation Council developed the following policy statements and glossary in pursuit of the above objectives. The policies as a whole aimed to encourage and facilitate national consistency in quality improvement and accreditation programs and to encourage jursidictions to improve the accessibility of such programs.
