Awards Council

To fulfil the objectives of the Awards, a National Awards Council was established in 2001. The Council has five key areas of responsibility:

  ensuring sector ownership of the National Awards for Excellence;
  building the profile of both the Awards initiative and community housing;
  managing the development of the Awards over time
securing sponsorship; and
  overseeing the management of the Awards year to year.
  The Awards Council for 2005 is made up of:
  Carol Croce, Executive Officer, Community Housing Federation of Australia

Mike Newbigin, Executive Officer, Community Housing Coalition of Western Australia

  Jeff Mould, Manager Community Housing, Department of Housing and Works, Western Australia
  Maria Demasi, Manager, Community Housing Council of South Australia
  Cristina Pebaque, CEO, National Community Housing Forum

The Council aims to plant the Awards firmly in the culture of the community housing sector, and to celebrate and bring into the public arena the excellent work that is being undertaken to house people across the nation. Through showcasing excellence the public perception of the sector will become informed and community housing will become a stronger player in the ongoing development of social housing.

The National Community Housing Forum (NCHF) auspices the National Awards Council and at the same time acts as secretariat. The day-to-day management of the Awards, and activities related to the development of the Awards, is an NCHF responsibility under the direction of the National Awards Council.

National Awards Reports

A report is produced on the Awards every year detailing the winners. Over the years these reports have become an important tool for best practice in community housing as they present a collection of national examples of best practice.
These reports are available online or phone the NCHF office on 02 9211 0422 for a hard copy.
